FIrstly, I have to say I am overly impressed with openSUSE 10.2. I was looking for a stable, easy to use, yet powerful Linux distro and SUSE looked to be the best candidate. Everything has run without any hitches until this morning when I tried to print to my old HP DeskJet 612C.
SUSE detected it just fine but no tests were coming out. I took a log in /var/log/messages and noticed a slew of these lines after trying to send a test page to the printer:
kernel: DMA write timed out
I also noticed the last line before these lines was :
kernel: lp0: ECP mode
Did running the parallel port in ECP mode have anything to do with this error? Turns out it did. I switched to normal mode in the BIOS and printing was successful.
